Holidays!

That's how I was feeling when I could see my holidays approaching.
And yesterday they just arrived. As they were coming close I just couldn't wait, but then reality hit me and I had this mixed feelings because I realised I have this need for speed. To me it is essencial having something to do (rather not be studying, but something that keeps me ocupied) and now I have all this free time in my hands.

This holiday season, my goal is to put all that time to good use.
Today is my first day to enjoy from the beginning to the end! I can't stop, I won't stop!

(There is no translation to this dissertation because it was written in the rush of the moment. It talks about feelings and memories, and I couldn't put it in words which weren't mine at the time this text refers to. I'll keep in mind a post scriptum translation, when the feelings cool down. Also, I'll remeber to illustrate it with pictures). ;)

Life Is Sweet

In English

I'm in full exam season.
I've always enjoyed studying at summertime. Sunshine and warm weather would honestly motivate me to get rid of the issue.
Until something new happened to me: I really don't feel like studying in any season or weather .

Still, and though I have to force myself to study, I really appreciate and need to be organised and always leave some time to myself so I can wander around or just do something that I enjoy.
Because I believe everything in life needs to be balanced and also because I am surrounded by so many stuff just waiting to be taken advantage of!

Yesterday we've not only opened exam season, we decided to inaugurate beach season as well!

Small Things #1

Todos apreciamos as pequenas coisas.

In English

We all appreciate the small things. At the end of the day, we all do really.

As I grow older I realise it is harder for me to feel fulfilled. Don't get it the wrong way, I consideer myself a very lucky, grateful and (most days) satisfied person. But as the time goes by we all become more responsible and aware of what surrounds us.

As so, when I give it a thought I come to the conclusion that certain things make me feel good with myself, just like that. My mind becomes lighter and I feel free, maybe happier. Most of those things are somehow related to the past and to my memories, linked with my routines when I was younger.

And, at the end of the day, these things are the smallest but also the most significant things in my life, because they make me feel like nothing else does. It's just like when you put a lot of effort on something you really want and when you get it you feel like it was all paied off. That's how I feel except for the part where I have got to push myself.

But in the end I feel accomplished and I feel that life is totally worth it.

These are a few of the things that make me happy:

1. Chegar a casa ao fim da tarde e sentar-me no jardim a comer morangos que eu própria plantei no meu quintal - Coming home late in the afternoon and sit ouside eating fresh fruit that I actually planted in my backyard;

2. Ir dar um passeio ao parque e celebrar o aniversário de uma amiga com um piquenique - Going out for a walk in the park and celebrate a friend's birthday with a picnic.

3. Sair de casa sem destino, sem horários, sem compromissos e fotografar - Getting out of the house with no plans or pressures and take some pictures;

4. Apanhar flores e pô-las em jarras bonitas espalhadas pela casa - Picking fresh flowers and arrange them in nice vases spreaded around the house.

Home

In English,

This is another post about a city. This one is not documenting any journey though. Or maybe it is, an endless one.

I've moved to Lisbon about eight months ago. We were not strangers, never been. But we weren't close too, although I've alwaysknown there was some kind of love between us.
I've never felt impatient about leaving my parents' or about becoming independent when I came to college, but I was excited with the beginning of a new life. I knew it was going to be good.

My first week was relatively calm and with a little bit of tourism. But a different one, a kind of tourism that fixed names of streets in my memory and visions of beautiful buildings in my eyes, while the routines were being synchronized.

That week was reproduced once or twice after. First around Christmas and then at my birthday, which coincided with our Carnival break. I got tired of bringing my camera everytime I would go out because I would walk big distances and also because sometimes I had to carry a few books (quite heavy ones, college life, you know). But I may confess I regreted a few times afterwards. Anyway, in those days that I fought against laziness I took a good number of satisfactory shots.

Choosing Lisbon to be my second home (becoming my first more and more because this is the one I chose all by myself) was easy, quite easy actually. There was never another option and I hope you understand why, so here it goes:

Brussels II

In English

Oh well, it's been a while since I last posted something up. Actually, It's been so long that I forgot most of the details about Brussels. On the other hand, it makes my task of describing what was missing about the subject so much easier. And somehow it tests what remained in my memory.
With no further delay I present to you the last pictures of the trip and a tiny little bit of what I believe you'ld like to know as well.

I think I still haven't talked about Parque du Cinquantenaire nor the Museé Royal de l'Armée et de l´Histoire Militaire. Actually we went to this park, a little bit more far from the city center, in the last day of our trip because we had already visited and seen everything in the city's downtown, so to speak. The park is quite big, wide open and very pretty indeed. In our way to the park we walked by the European Parliament and when we got there we could see people exercising and so on. Everything's very calm, though you can notice some tourists.

When you pass under de big arch at the end of the park you'll see two museums. I really don't remember the name of the second one but we chose to go to the army one beacause the entry was free. It is incredibly big and with so many rooms. You can eventually get tired but it's full of beautiful artifacts from many countries and ages, always related to war, somehow. The highlight of this museum is an huge hangar with so many kinds of planes, you feel like you are on a movie set. It's all worth it just because of that!!

We didn't go out at night very often. I felt that people ended their days quite soon and there wasn't much movement at night or anything. We have a few photos taken after sunset but only because the days were very short and ended quite early. There was only one night we went out for a different programme of which I have no pictures. We found the cinemateca, checked the programming (one of the best advantages of Brussels is that you will easily find cultural information) and decided to watch a black and white film about cowboys where the characters didn't talk, although there was subtitles (in english) describing the action. The sessions are very small and clearly considerating tourists, but you have french sessions as well if you are interested. Maybe it doesn't sound that exciting but I actually enjoyed it so much, I am sure this was an experience that will always remain in my memory.

Also with no pictures here (maybe I will post some later) we headed to Magritte Museum and to the Museum of Instruments, this last one portraited in the third photo. I love everything that's related to painting and all that stuff so I guess there was just no way I wouldn't love Magritte. I highly recomend it. At the instruments one I had a very dull time. But the building is beautiful and the tiled floor at the entrance is unusual but so very pretty.

I already told you how much I enjoyed to visit Brussels, much more than I expected, actually. The city isn't that big but it's worth a visit someday. It's the ideal destination for a weekend.

- And I guess my memory isn't that bad, hein?!
